CFO Skills Assessment

Client: One of the largest energy multinationals

Client Requests

As CFOs of modern global corporations are prioritising a shift in capabilities across all operating model dimensions, the client wanted to assess existing skill gaps and to determine the development path towards the goal of enabling future CFOs to drive value creation to manage risks and navigate through the complexities of the current dynamic business environment.

The first round of assessment of 40 finance executives out of a total of 200 would be the pilot group.

Our solution

We uniquely combined the technical and leadership assessments in a groundbreaking way. A team of EY trainers and assessors, together with the 40 participants, immersed themselves in the case study, experiencing the life of a CFO firsthand. They navigated the pressures and demands of the role, recognizing the need for both technical and soft skills at every stage of this journey. In this dynamic financial environment, they faced situations requiring quick decision-making, critical thinking, sound judgment, and effective communication with key stakeholders such as shareholders and regulators.

More than 10 technical skills and six leadership skills were assessed during the workshops that spanned three weeks.

The pilot program was a huge success, and we are now preparing to start the next groups on this transformative journey.
