From Vision to Action: A Practical Workshop on Strategic Management Basics

Strategy Starts with Clarity – Mission, Vision, Goals

Live Online | Half-day Workshop | Interactive, Intensive & Practical Training

This practical workshop strips away the jargon and abstract terms often spoken about with strategy, and focuses on the essentials to provide clarity: mission, vision, strategic goals, and guiding principles. Through interactive discussions and team-based work, you will not only refresh your knowledge but also experience how to create the foundation for building effective strategy. Only when this clarity is established can people truly get on board — feeling engaged, motivated, and inspired to be part of the journey.

Working hands-on with a modern business case, you and your working team will feel like creating a new enterprise from scratch, shaping its mission, vision, goals, and strategic principle. By the end of the session, you will have translated abstract concepts into tangible examples and practiced how to lay the groundwork for a strategy you can build on in real life.

Professionals who:

  • want to clarify the essentials of strategy and how they work together,
  • want to practice turning mission and vision into actionable goals,
  • are responsible for setting direction, goals, or priorities in their teams or organisations,
  • value interactive, case-based learning with immediate application.

Objectives

The programme provides participants with knowledge and practical skills for initiating the strategy-building process effectively. By working in teams on a realistic case and reflecting on real-world examples, you will gain insights that go far beyond theory.

After completing this course you will be able to:

  • clearly distinguish between mission, vision, goals, and strategy,
  • formulate mission and vision statements that are clear, inspiring, and practical,
  • create strategic goals that are specific, ambitious, and realistic,
  • define a guiding strategic principle that shapes decisions and behaviours,
  • apply a structured, step-by-step approach to start strategy building process,
  • engage people by creating clarity and direction that builds alignment and motivates them to be part of the strategy.

Training Methodology

The course combines short input lectures, real-life examples, and case-based teamwork. Participants will examine inspiring (and less inspiring) mission and vision statements, challenge assumptions through peer discussion, and practice translating abstract ideas into actionable goals.

The design ensures participants learning by doing — creating and presenting a strategy concept for a fictional start-up that tackles a real-world challenge.

An interactive half-day workshop introducing the essentials of strategic management through practice, discussion, and teamwork.

You will gain insights and answer these questions:

  • What is strategy?
  • What is the difference between mission, vision, strategic directions and goals?
  • How is strategy connected to mission and vision?
  • What is the strategic principle?
  • How to initiate the strategy-building process effectively?

Practical elements include:

  • Analysing good and weak examples of real-world mission and vision statements,
  • Practicing the “fix the fluff” exercise – rewriting weak statements into strong ones,
  • Working in teams on a modern business case of a start-up to formulate its mission, vision, strategic goals, and a guiding principle,
  • Presenting and stress-testing your working team concepts with feedback from peers and facilitator.
