Go Beyond the Matrix, Deliver the Strategy: A Practical Workshop on the SWOT Model
Beyond the Matrix – Strategy Powered by Deep Analysis
Live Online | Half-day Workshop | Interactive, Intensive & Practical Training
SWOT analysis is one of the most widely used strategy related tools – yet in practice, it often results in a shallow, generic list that offers little real guidance for decision-making. Too many SWOTs end up as impressive-looking catalogues of hopes and concerns, but with no concrete plan behind them.
This practical workshop takes SWOT to the next level. You will learn how to challenge assumptions, validate each factor, and go beyond surface observations to uncover the Key Success Factors (KSFs) that truly shape strategic success.
Through a realistic business case, you will see how an apparently solid SWOT can quickly unravel under scrutiny — and how deeper analysis can transform it into a powerful, practical foundation for strategy.
Professionals who:
- are responsible for strategy formulation, planning, or execution,
- want to strengthen their ability to analyse businesses rigorously and avoid false assumptions,
- are looking to sharpen their ability to translate analysis into clear strategic priorities,
- value interactive, practical learning with immediate application.
Objectives
The programme equips participants with practical skills to transform SWOT into a genuine strategy tool. By working on a realistic case and engaging in peer-to-peer exchange, you will gain insights that go far beyond textbook models.
After completing this course you will be able to:
- confidently conduct a deep SWOT analysis that avoids common pitfalls,
- challenge and validate assumptions behind strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats,
- identify which factors are truly strategically relevant,
- translate SWOT into Key Success Factors that guide strategy,
- apply a questioning framework that ensures your analysis always connects to action.
Training Methodology
This short but powerful workshop combines interactive plenary discussions, team-based analysis, and structured reflection.
The design ensures that participants not only practice SWOT but also experience the pitfalls of superficial analysis — and learn the discipline of digging deeper. The focus is on “learning by doing” through working with a case study, challenging assumptions, and deriving actionable Key Success Factors.
An interactive workshop introducing a rigorous approach to SWOT analysis as the foundation for identifying Key Success Factors.
You will gain insights and answer these questions:
- Why do most SWOTs fail to deliver strategic value?
- What questions separate a superficial SWOT from a deep, actionable one?
- How can we validate whether a strength or opportunity is real?
- How do we move from SWOT to Key Success Factors that shape the way to deliver strategy?
Practical elements include:
- Working with a detailed business case
- Creating a SWOT analysis – and then running a stress-test of it using a deep questioning framework to uncover false strengths, hidden threats, and flipped opportunities
- Extracting the Key Success Factors from the revised SWOT after the stress test.
- Sharing insights and comparing perspectives across teams
- Co-creating recommendations with facilitator input and peer feedback
