The Scrum Master Accountability

A course with a wide-ranging set of topics touching on the philosophy and the market drivers of the change towards more adaptive organizations, discussing the organizational prerequisites of introducing agile, with a complete overview of Scrum and Kanban to give participants the ability to support an Agile transformation journey right away. This course focuses not just on the “how” (which is simple) but also the “why” (which is difficult, but necessary to know) with our trainer, who has nearly two decades of agile experience and helped multiple companies make the transition to a more flexible and adaptive way of working.

Best suited for current and potential Scrum Masters from organizations that are in a middle of an agile transition or planning to start that journey.

There are many ways to learn about Scrum or Agile in general – but this program gives the opportunity to learn from someone who received his Scrum Master certificate on a course ran personally by Ken Schwaber in 2006 and already implemented various agile approaches on multiple occasions in various companies. This wealth of experience is extremely valuable when there are difficult questions to be answered and when the theory needs to be backed up with real-life examples. You will learn not only the theory behind Scrum but also how to solve the difficult challenges of a transition in a practical way.

Objectives

After completing the training, participants will be able to understand the concepts behind Scrum, the importance of a time-driven approach and will get familiar with the ceremonies, the accountabilities (roles) of Scrum and the artefacts, including how to use them efficiently. Participants will understand the standard tools and techniques that a Scrum Master can use to help their teams make participatory decisions and encourage collaboration and innovation, while they will be able to help their organizations to create an environment in which Scrum can thrive.

Benefits

  • An internationally acknowledged trainer who started helping teams on their Agile journey in 2005
  • Listen to experiences accumulated by running multiple Agile transitions across various industries, companies and countries
  • Understand not just the theory, but the mindset that drives the most successful adaptive organizations

By attending this course, you can avoid making the usual and painful mistakes many Scrum Masters make after only learning the theory of Scrum – the ceremonies, the roles and the artefacts. Of course, knowing those is important, but the philosophy and the necessary mindset change is even more important. These things are best learnt from someone who already ran several transitions and taught thousands of participants on this topic and can back up the theory with unique stories and real-life scenarios.

  • The predictive–adaptive scale and the suitability of the methods
  • The agile mindset and the preconditions to introduce it
  • Overview of Agile methods: Lean, Kanban, Scrum, XP
  • The Agile Manifesto
  • Kanban: visual workflow, WIP limits, bottlenecks
  • Scrum: timeboxing, accountabilities, artifacts and events
  • Agile content planning and management
  • Estimates in Agile, velocity and release planning
  • Technical debt, refactoring, testing principles, version control
  • Servant leadership: learning, coaching and motivation
  • How to build a cross-functional team
  • Tools for the success of retrospectives
  • Anti-patterns of the Scrum Master accountability
